| Department Profile |
|
We are a dedicated group of men and women committed to providing emergency services to the citizens of the City of Union Gap and residents of Yakima County Fire District #11. Customer needs are met through a combination of paid and volunteer staff efforts.
Career Captains and Firefighters are on a 48/96 hour schedule and provide 24/7 City coverage. Volunteers, usually averaging 20 in number, support the career staffing plan. Volunteers staff the station beginning at 6:00 p.m. and return to their paying jobs or family 6:00 a.m. the following day on weekdays. Volunteers also provide coverage throughout the weekends. The volunteer component plays a large part in the emergency services delivered to the community and supporting the Career staffing.

History
|
The Union Gap Volunteer Fire Department was formed November 3, 1937. Fourteen individuals united in an effort to provide what they perceived to be the fire protection needs of the community. More than fifty years later, that tradition lives on, with dedicated volunteers and a small career staff providing fire protection and other emergency services.
